Being you

"It is better to follow your own path, however imperfect, than to follow someone else's perfectly"

Maharishi Veda Vyasa

As children we learn that to make others happy. Life is easier if we ‘fit in’. To survive and feel secure, children need to stay connected to their parent, peers, and community. Belonging and connection is everything to children, who rely on love and nuturing to feel safe.

However, sometimes as adults, we continue to focus on just pleasing others, and struggle to express ourselves. Some clients tell me they are not sure what they want or how they truely feel, but know what others want and expect from them.

Oscar Wilde is reported to have said

"Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken"

If you are struggling with this problem, therapy may be helpful.
